Louise Selby 25 Years Book

Louise Selby 25 Years

This season marks my 25th year as a wedding dress designer.

I wanted this book to represent a visual journey through a quarter of a century of designing and making wedding dresses. From the opulent frills and puffed sleeves of the late eighties, epitomised by Diana, Princess of Wales, to a more minimalistic and slender look in the nineties to a return to a demure, traditional look with Kate Middleton. My inspirations come from travel, searching through vintage shops abroad, old films, couture and current trends.

Along this journey, I discovered lace. I love the appearance of bare lace over skin, whether as a fluted lace sleeve or a sheer lace back. Chantilly, Guipure, Calais and Provencal all feature in my collections and have become my signature look.

I make all my dresses at my studio in Kew using lace that I source directly from France with silks from Europe. I oversee everything and attend all the fittings. My designs therefore appeal to discerning brides who recognise quality of workmanship and luxurious fabrics.

With my studio so close to the Royal Botanical Gardens of Kew, the language of flowers is relevant and poignant. My wedding gowns are known by exquisite floral names with romantic meanings, such as Forget-me-not (true love), Daisy (innocence) and Mistletoe (a kiss).

To commemorate my 25 years, I have featured some gorgeous new designs in this book hallmarked by my signature lace look. From the softest tulle-backed dresses with appliquéd lace to gowns with stunning sheer Calais lace backs, I strive to reflect a bride’s personality with elegant and timeless designs that fit beautifully.
